Hudson-Kenshinkai
The Hudson dojo was founded as a mature
student dojo by Shinan Wayne Donivan. That means the syllabus and training
methodology is tuned to the needs of adults who are generally 35 years and older
but also accepts students as young as 16 years of age. The dojo is a great
success having produced several black belt students and has a full roster. The
dojo is run by Sensei Colin Scotcher, Yon-dan.
Sensei Scotcher was the first student to
attain the rank of black belt at Kenshinkai and after assisting Shinan Wayne
Donivan, was promoted to Instructor for the adult classes and has taught for
several years. Maintaining the original methodology as envisioned by Shinan
Donivan, Sensei Scotcher has added his own teaching style to offer his
students an optimum learning environment.
Having started the martial arts in his
thirties, Sensei Scotcher is keenly aware of the needs of the mature student and
his classes emphasize self defense while promoting self discipline and physical
fitness, all in a friendly environment. "The success of our dojo stems from our
ability to adapt and individualize the teaching to meet our student's needs",
states Sensei Scotcher.
A resident of Hudson, he is a commercial
property developer and he and his wife Darleen have 4 children.

Kuujjuaq-Kazien Kai The Kuujjuaq Karate Club is Run under the Guidance of Sensei Giovanna Taddeo, 5th Dan. In collaboration with the Kuujjuaq Youth Center, Sensei Taddeo , a police officer was able to integrate the Kuujjuaq Karate Dojo as part of a community policing/prevention project initiated in 2001. The Kaizen Kai dojo is known for its eminent role of its Youth Leaders who serve as positive role models for other youth throughout Nunavik. The Leadership program is one of Kentokukan’s main focus, seeing that it’s goal is to equip today’s youth with the necessary tools to fight off negative influencesThe karate program has been successfully running in Kuujjuaq since 2002. In 2009, Sensei Taddeo was approached by the Kativik Regional Government to bring martial arts to the rest of Nunavik and the Kuujjuaq Karate club became the inspiration for the karate program that is reaching out to youth in communities throughout the region. Thus the SMART program (sustainable martial arts recreational training) was created and is run through KRG. The Dojo is currently being run by SMART leader Sensei Mélanie Chabot. Sensei Mélanie is a 1st dan in Kiyokushin Karate, she is currently training and learning the Kentokukan curriculum through the SMART program so she can maintain consistency within the Kaizen Kai Dojo. Sensei Mélanie is assited by Monique Stanton (Orange Belt) also a SMART leader from Kuujjuaq. Their classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday for Juniors and Adults.
